Crafternoon - Frosted Windows

At my house, we have quite a few windows. Which of course means spending quite a bit of money on window dressings. Or does it?

I recently came across an interesting idea, for creating a cheap alternative to curtains or blinds, but still allowing you the beautiful sunlight. Contact Paper,

Yes, the very contact you would cover books with, also works really well as a window treatment. I originally saw it here, and couldn't wait to go home and try it out for myself!

So, $3 and a combined total of 12 hours later, I am so happy with the results! It took a bit of dedication but once I worked out optimum placement for the pieces, everything else worked out like  a charm. I even remembered to take a few photos for you!

Start off with a stencil...


Then start tracing... Remember to draw on the paper side of the contact, not the shiny side.


Then start cutting. Trust me, you're going to want someone to help with this, two hands (with scissors) are better than one.



Chose your window, and make sure you clean it really well. The cleaner the window, the better the contact will stick.



Start sticking!


It's time consuming, but so worth it in the end. I love the overall look! I left a gap at the top and the bottom of the window, as I liked the look of it. It took about 80 separate shapes to do the one window, so make sure you cut out plenty of shapes. 

Now, on to the next project...

Catch Up

Hey folks, 

Just a quick post to give you guys an update!

My Real Estate Agent emailed me today, some exciting news, we're getting our new dishwasher on the weekend! Apparently the owner has it ready, and just needs to come over and have it installed. I'm almost tempted to make lots of dirty dishes, just so we can use the dishwasher. Almost.

We've also been given a quote for new carpet for our master bedroom, which will hopefully be installed in the next couple of weeks, which means we can actually move into the room! At the moment, we're camped out in the sunroom, surrounded by boxes of things we haven't been able to put away yet. 

It'll be 3 years that Justin and I have been together, middle of next month. I've been trying to subtely hint to Justin that I would love to go and see the Rocky Horror stage show, not sure if he's picked up what I'm putting down.
I'd also love to go away for the weekend, and just relax, but we'll see if that goes ahead! 

I'm pretty excited, I spoke to my brother the other day, and we've organised to go to the Belgrave Lantern Parade this year! More crafting, and I get to spend time with my amazing neice and nephew! Talk about excited haha.

I think I've mentioned it before, but I'm now doing Level 1-Beginners Pole Dancing every Wednesday night. We're three classes in so far, our 4th class is tomorrow night. We've learnt some basic moves, and we're going to start working on a basic routine, to perform during the last class. It's hard work, but I love it. I must say though, I'm a little disappointed that I haven't suffered any bruises yet, everyone else seems to have! Maybe I'm just super tough!

So anyway, that's about all for now. I'll try and write up a couple more posts for you soon. I'm working on Welcome To Melbourne - Ghost Tour and a couple of fashion ones too. Fingers crossed I have time to get everything done!

Bathroom Wish List

Now that we've moved into the master bedroom (well, almost), we're using the en suite bathroom. It's tiny. I mean really small. We've got the shower, toilet, and basin with a small cupboard underneath. There is a medium sized window and a small round mirror on the wall. We also have a sliding door to the bathroom. 

I've been trying to think of a way to update the room, but without spending a whole lotta money, and still keeping the bathroom rental friendly. 
I'm in love with the colour teal at the moment, and would love to be able to incorporate the colour into the room. I have to paint the walls white, so at least I'll have a neutral base to start off with. I'm thinking of doing some sort of feature wall, on the wall with the mirror. Something like below, but invert the colours. I don't know if I should by contact, instead of wall paper, or some sort of decorative tape. 

Next to the basin, on the left hand side, is a bit of dead space. I'd like to be able to put some sort of skinny shelving there, so I can increase the storage, but I can't quite work out the perfect design. Failing that, I'll hang my hair dryer there hahaha


 

Of the above three, I like the one on the very right. It's not too high, has shelves and a cupboard, but I think it might be a little wide... awks.

I'm also in love with the idea, of a really big mirror on the wall, hanging landscape style. With a nice ornate frame. I think it would be a piece of art in it's self! Plus, then I can actually see my face to do my make up :)

There are so many options for storage and design, I even dream about doing up my bathroom! Hopefully I can make a decision, and we can have a nice bathroom for once!

Ikea Adventure

Last weekend, Cloe and I went on an adventure to our local Ikea (Springvale for all you locals). We were looking for some big furniture pieces, like bed side tables, buffet, and bookshelves. Sadly, we didn't find exactly what we were looking for, but we had fun anyway!

We came back with a few odd bods, and were pretty happy with our purchases. Mainly because we also bought candy and chocolate, but that's a story for another day!

So, Cloe bought:

• Doona cover
• Wardrobe inserts
• Draws for wardrobe insert
• Shower caddy
• Washing hamper
• Waste bin
  

I think there are a couple of other things she bought as well, but I can't for the life of me remember them!

Then I bought:

• Laundry hamper
• Rails & containers
• Laptop stable table
• Doona Cover

We both bought a fair amount of candy, which Cloe then decided to eat on the way home.

I must admit though, I forgot to take many photos during our time there, because I was just enjoying myself too much! Actually, I only took one photo... Sorry! 

I saw this, and thought I might be able to replicate it for Justin with all of his collected movie, gig and concert tickets. I know he loves having them, like little paper reminders of the fun things he's done, so I'd like to be able to display them in a nice way for him. Plus, I figure if I copy the tickets and get them printed on coloured paper it will look just as good!

At our house, we already have a few things from Ikea, mainly a lamp, wine bottle holder, touch lamp thingy, and some photo frames. But there are so many things on my wish list. Like...

EKBY VALTER - $99
I need this shelf in my life. Like need. I'm thinking it would be good in my bathroom, because there isn't much storage in there at the moment, besides the tiny under sink cupboard. So I could put my hair ties, clips, hairbrush etc. in there, and have a shelf as well!

ALGOT BASKETS - $33
This I think would work great in my pantry. Because we have a corner pantry, sometimes things get lost in the corner (even though I put lights in there). So I'm thinking I could attach this to the inside of the door, and put packets of soup, cans of tuna, muesli bars and other little food items in the baskets. 

STOCKHOLM VASE - $49.99
I am in love with the colour teal at the moment. I saw this large flat vase and instantly fell in love. I have no idea where I would put it, I just want it.

GRUNDTAL SHELF - $39.99
As I mentioned before, our bathroom is tiny, and we don't have much storage. Normally, these shelves are put in the empty space above the toilet, to told air freshener and extra toilet paper, but because we have tiles on the wall, I can't mount it there. So I'm thinking maybe on the opposite wall, but we'll see.

So there you have it folks! Next time we go, I promise to take more photos!
